              Details
  • If you decide to hire me as your Doula, we'll  sign a contract and  debrief about your client intake form. Your  prenatal visits  will include discussing your birth wishes  and drafting a birth preferences plan.    I can recommend books, articles and community resources  in order to  help you make decisions  you feel will work best for you.
  •  We'll discuss pain reduction options, practice  comfort measures and talk through any fears you may have.    I will do my best to provide you with   relevant tools and I will support you in  your decision making. I will do my best to help you find your voice so that you can communicate with your birth support team and so that you can advocate for yourself.   (see *notes)
  • I'm also available  for any questions that come up and for check-in's   after midwives/doctors and other appointments. It's good for us to keep up to date with any changes in your health or pregnancy.
  • I'm on call 24/7 beginning 2 weeks prior to your estimated  date of delivery.  I ask clients to call when they think they may be in labour so we can discuss what happens next. You must contact me when you feel that you are in labour. I will need at least three  hours notice to join you  before  you go into active labour. I'll join you at the point that you feel that you'd really benefit from an extra pair of hands, whenever that may be. I usually come to clients' homes during labour, but will meet you at the hospital if that is your preference.     My  first priority is that this would be  in-person support. Otherwise this will be virtual support or a combination of the two.
  • If in-person support is permitted I will stay with you throughout your labour and childbirth, and for the first 1-2 hours after you give birth in order to help get breastfeeding established and ensure that you, your partner and your baby are getting settled in together. I will stay with you throughout your birth experience even if that involves an epidural or unexpected  caesarean  birth.
  • We'll meet again at least once after your baby is born, to see how you're settling in, discuss your experience  and admire your baby.
  • I will arrange a backup Doula for you in case an emergency prevents me from attending your birth. I encourage you to speak with or meet your backup Doula if you choose. I draw on a network of doulas who I know and trust for back-up services.
* Please keep in mind that while a doula might add another opinion to the mix when decisions need to be made about labor and delivery, a doula  does not  provide medical advice, which is the responsibility  of your midwife or health care provider. I'm part your team but I do not replace the role of your medical health care providers.
